The first element by and large beyond anything else you could possibly imagine as being important is discipline. Many people do not have discipline and this is why many people will not only fail at Forex trading but will fail at any kind of financial trading in any part of the world at any time. To be a successful Forex trader, you need to be disciplined. There is no argument about this point and indeed there can be no argument about this point. If you are impulsive and prone to questioning and second-guessing your actions, then you are not going to do well in an imperfect activity. Trading is most definitely an imperfect activity simply because the price of a stock or the value of a currency pair will fluctuate greatly depending on the position it is at and the market conditions before it eventually hits either your stop loss or your profit objective. The discipline to set a trade with a stop loss and profit objective and then stick to that trade no matter what is absolutely part of what defines an excellent Forex trader.

The second essential element of a successful Forex trader is to be able to take losses in stride and move on to the next trade. In other words, successful Forex traders have thick skin. This is the same kind of property that online business owners need to have simply because it is quite possible for the online business owners to work on their business for months before they see some positive return. Having thick skin is very important in all walks of life but its importance as it relates to the act of Forex trading really cannot be stressed enough. Why is this so important? Well, consider the way that Forex trading works. If you are trading a simple strategy and doing it for six hours a day at your computer, then you should probably be involved in at least three or four trades during that timeframe. If you are able to make four successful trades, then congratulations to you! However, if you make three successful trades and then lose on the fourth one, chances are that you still have a good profit for the day. However, some people cannot stand to lose and this will affect them the next day and the day after. Putting one trade out of your mind after it is done and then focusing on the next one is the sign of a potentially successful Forex trader.
